The coach batteries MUST be "ON". To power the 12V control panel that controls the fridge.
Control panel not lit up = no power= no cold. And...takes between 5 and 8 hours to cool every down from start. So turn it on the nite before you pack it up. And...unlike a house fridge that pumps cold air in, these RV units suck warm air out, and what you're left with is "cold".
Got an owners' manual? It's there to read....if not, contact the manufacturer. They can most likely give you one.
Hope that helps.
I have the owners manual and tried to find an answer about this very thing but couldn't find anything definitive. If anything it indicated the fridge would cool on just propane but that didn't sound right so I wanted to check here. In short, I did try to "RTFM" before posting here :)
Thanks again for the responses
Need 12V DC power to operate fridge be it on electric heat element or propane.
12V DC power is for the fridge control circuits
If plugged into shore power (or generator) converter can supply the 12V DC power (house battery can be OFF) but if plugged into AC power run fridge on electric
Propane can be used while on AC shore power or with house battery ON
