- 10forty2ExplorerOn the side of the tire, there should be in pretty big letters and numbers the model of the tire....IE., G647 or G670..... and there should also be the size, 245/70R 19.5, and load rating, F, G or H, or something similar.

Goodyear truck tires
I haven't responded because I'm not sure how to determine the "series" of the tires. Is it alpha or numeric and is it identified on the sidewall? Thanks! / Larry - 10forty2Explorer

Ditto. They are good for all positions. I'm running Goodyear G647, 245/70R 19.5 for all 6 tires. I don't think there's a major difference between the G647 truck tire and the G670 RV except in the rubber formulation. Supposedly, the G670 has a chemical compound that resist UV better since RVs tend to sit more than they roll. The G647 is supposed to have a better sidewall to resist curb scrub as is the norm for delivery trucks like UPS. - Good year does specify position in their truck tires. By looking on the sidewall, is there a way to determine if a Goodyear 245-70R-19.5 tire is a 'steer tire'?
I am using Goodyear G647 245/70R 19.5 For Steering And G622 for drive. Hope this helps. Gary - DuctapeExplorerMostly has to do with tread wear. 4x4 trucks use traction tires on the front.
Highway ribs wear longer. - LVJ58ExplorerWe use Bridgestone R250F 245/70R19.5 tires on all wheels. Been working just fine now for over 15 years.
- thgoodmanExplorerI've always thought that any tire that does not have cross treads can be used as a steer tire. Interesting question. Hope you share the results of your investigation with us.
