You can, but do your homework.
Lot of those quick connectors use rubber oring, or other rubber seals.
Those don't have the highest reliabity nor long life expetancy.
I have been always fan of flare fittings, but those require wrenches to connect.
Than as posted - check if your generator is using liquid or vapor.
Beware that propae takes lot of heat to vaporize and if you run big generator from 5 gallons vapor, you can freeze the tank quite easy this time of the year.
Than beware of scams with tanks exchange. Lot of those swapped 5gals have 4.3 gallons of propane in them.
