Re-seal or patch

Had a leak in my roof from a roof vent. I went to an RV repair shop and asked about taping all of my roof seams with Eternabond. He said that is not the way to go. He wanted to do a $200.00 air test and then caulk as needed. Who knows what he would come up with such as windows leak-need new ones, need to reseal roof and repair holes, or even the sides leak, maybe all of it. He tends to get carried away. Am I correct in not agreeing with him? May be O.K. if money was not a problem! Just how much does a pressure leak test cost?

  • Do you not trust them?
If you do, the leak test is good to find all the invisible leaks.
  • Do the leak test. If done right, it's money well spent.

After a couple years of battling with a leaky skylight I don't trust EB. Caulk/tape are great IF you know exactly where to put them. That's the neat thing about the air test.

The one thing I found that stopped my skylight leaking was Heng's roof seal. Goes on like thick paint, seals anything. Expensive, but well worth it.
  • an air test is the best way to determine where the leaks are and how to stop them. listen to the professionals. I think tape has a purpose, primarily to tape over a tear in TPO or rubber. I would much rather have a properly caulked roof myself.
