We hooked up the batteries in series so yes we ran 24v through a 12v system without realizing we had 2 12v batteries. All Pep Boys was willing to do is exchange the batteries and give me the names for some mechanics who might be able to help me out
Yep, typical. Mess it up and then abandon the whole thing and let the customer fend for themselves and eat the repair cost.
This may have caused some other problems or maybe even the problems you are currently experiencing.
DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.
Make sure the mechanic you use gives you a thorough diagnosis with possible causes of the malfunctions.
You said "We hooked up the batteries in series." Do you mean that you helped them install the batteries or they did it on their own?
Unfortunately, I mean my husband and i.
But PepBoys took our original 6 volt cores and told us they were selling us comparable replacements when instead they sold us 12 volt :(
Game changer. Sure, they are liable for selling you the wrong batteries BUT it is YOUR responsibility to know your equipment and know the work that YOU do.
You MIGHT be able to get them on the wrong batteries and make them give you the correct batteries but as to the damage to the rig..... unfortunately that is on you and your spouse. I really am sorry to say that and could not think of a nicer way to say it.
I really am sorry about your problems and wish I could help you with them. If I were nearby I would surely give you a hand with it.
As with all things in life, this is a learning experience so make sure you think of it that way and remember the next time you work on your rig you make yourself familiar with everything you are doing.
These forums are an excellent source for education and there are tons of people here that will walk you through whatever you need to do.
There are also a lot of videos on Youtube that help teach folks how to do things. Anytime you and your spouse wish to tackle a repair just head over there and run a search or ask u on here if you are not absolutely sure.
DO NOT let this experience sway you from performing light maintenance and repairs on your rig. Your intentions were admirable, just missed it a little on application.
HOPEFULLY the damage is not too great and things will be repaired soon and it will not cost too much.
Again, I really am sorry.
