I think Chevy has a permanent niche now. Some upfitters want a guarantee that 10 years from now, they can have the exact same stuff used now able to be used then. With the Express 4500 out, they also have a RV market since "C" makers know that chassis is going to be around well past 2020, long after the Econoline cutaway chassis is out of production.
If Chevy does get a Euro-style van, I would probably expect a rebranded South Korean edition.
Oh... don't forget that Hyundai is looking to dip their toe into the van market, just like they were interested in making a full size pickup truck. If they do this, they can beat everyone in the market just on price alone.
