Simply geometry says it has to be happening - with a resultant reduction in rear tire tread life. Could be a lot ... could be insignificant ... but it HAS TO BE happening.
If one needs personal proof of it - stand beside a tandem wheel boat trailer or a tandem wheel RV trailer while the driver is jockying it around making tight turns on asphalt or concrete to position it. Standing beside it you can hear the rubber tread scrubbing on the surface just a bit. Granted, curves driving down the road are much more gradual, but the scrubbing action is still slowly but surely happening hour after hour. It seems to me that wear has to be adding up.
It does not, pretty simple answer. Duallies on the other hand have a problem on dirt roads of having small stones log between the tyres..Blowouts :)
