Refrigerator problems

Holiday Rambler Vacationer 2004, refrigerator not working properly, when on AC mode it will not operate but when switch to Gas (propane)it will operate normal. When on ac mode it will trip the GFI breaker, when on gas no problem. Recently did a 2500 mile trip and had to remove the AC plug from outlet and run refrigerator on gas. Any ideas/advice will be appreciate. I suspect electrical board. Have a great day.
  • If it has an ice maker, unplug it and see if gfi stays on. That is what I did.
  • I like to troubleshoot things before replacing.
GFCI tripping indicate power leak to the ground. The heating element has its own plug or connector.
When you disconnect the element and GFCI stays on >>> it is element.
If GFCI trips >>>> it is the board or something else on the panel.
  • If you have a Norcold 82xx refrigerator, it most likely is the board. I replaced mine this year because it quit working all together. At first it would blow the board's 5 amp fuse on ac and would only run on propane. After a few years, it would not work at all. After replacing the board and front panel, which comes as a complete replacement unit, everything works fine. I think that the company that sells them is American RV. It took less than an hour to replace.
  • I bought mine from David Force on ebay, He has the low wattage units, I believe i paid $70,00 for mine.

  • Old Biscuit and all the others are correct. Your heating element is shorted. Assuming it's a 1200..there should be two, replace both. Look at the manual for directions. Simple and pretty inexpensive. Buy em anywhere including CW but if purchasing them from CW be sure you get a delivery date..:W..Dennis
  • Heating elements are easy to change and a pretty cheap fix.
