Replacing inside lighting with LEDs

We just bought 1 a 92 Southwind S/P 35 and I have noticed some of those plastic covered lights with the switch in the middle seem to be burned out. I love the "daylight" LED light bulbs I have in my sewing room in the house--my husband says the room glows at night like I have a pot growing operation going on in there! :) LOL
Anyway, i want to start changing (and adding extra fixtures) LEDs (hopefully the daylight type) to the motorhome. Can anyone advise on how to do with this older MH? Suggestions for places to get the best price?

  • I bougt my first led bulbs at CW and they are working fine. I have bought good led bulbs and terrible bulbs on Ebay. 2 bulbs from ebay started smoking and melting. A couple others have quit in less than a year. I more recently bought a couple at super bright led. Some led bulbs wont work if the polarity is reversed. If you install the bulb and it doesn't work you may need to reverse the 2 wires on the back of the fixture.
  • I had a good experience getting some from ebay, good price, generally cross reference base as previously mentioned some sellers give examples for brightness etc. Also the diode count makes a difference It seems to me the more diodes the better
  • Most of those fixtures contain car tail light bulbs such as 1141 or 1156 or 1157, so all you need do is buy a LED replacement with a BA15 base. M4 Products is a good source for these though they are a little expensive. You can also check Amazon just searching for "1156 LED" or whatever your current bulbs are. You will find the M4 LEDs are somewhat higher in quality than the others.
  • You can replace the individual bulbs one at a time. Odds are that they are mostly 1141 auto bulbs. Watch out for the bright white because they are BRIGHT! I used the warm white mostly. I had to be careful where I placed the led's because they messed with my over the air tv reception.
