Replacing slide valve gaskets
We have to replace the 'o' rings on our black water valve slide;can we use Vaseline on the new gaskets for lubrication as opposed to a commercial product?

We in the aviation industry use "Parker "0" ring" lube, that is produced by Parker Hanflin corp. they manufacture about 99% of all "O" rings used in all applications, and it is Vaseline.
That's interesting and thanks for sharing but toilet slide seals are not O rings.
I don't know if they EPDM or nitrile or what but I KNOW silicone lube will not hurt them and Vaseline might, depending on what they are made from.
