I'm considering changing my Dometic New Dimensions to a residential fridge and have a couple of questions.First what have you done with the old one???? Mine is working perfectly so, one would think it would have some value. My initial thought is to pre-sell it on Craigs List but I'm sure others have found themselves in a similar situation.Second, what brands are currently be used as a replacement.Third, can you get them without a built in ice-maker. My coach has a stand alone U-Line for ice and I don't need two.Thanks for any insights.

I installed two Samsungs, one in my previous coach and one in my sister's coach. The model that was a perfect fit was discontinued, but the newer version still works, it's just a tad larger. Haier also makes some nice refers. (Personal Opinion) If you put the cheap two door refers in, like the old style freezer on top, they look cheap and cheapen the look of the motor home. I know some can only fit this type in, but just something to be aware of. The French door units really look nice. If you have to go with a two door, get an SS model, to make it look nice.I sold my Norcold on Craigslist for $300.00. The buyer was going to use it in a cabin. My sister sold hers for $350.00

No ice maker, either, as we use little and can always get by with a store bought bag of ice in the freezer. Would be running on a mod sine wave inverter and don't want any problems with fancy electronics either.

We replaced our Dometic New Dimension with this Samsung in December - it's about 3" taller than the old one, but otherwise a perfect fit. Our old one was on its last legs, so it was just scrapped.It'll be a tight squeeze getting it into your rig unless you have a bigger door than ours - the folks who did the work had to remove the passenger-side window and bring it in lying down on a forklift. The installation cost was just about the same as the refrigerator cost. BIG bonus - the Samsun is about half again as big as the Dometic. We can store more stuff!al

We replaced our failing 7.5 cu ft Norcold with a 10 cu ft Haier that was a near perfect fit. I gave the Norcold to a fellow RV'er that wanted to strip it for parts for his Norcold. Then he cut up the box and tossed the pieces in the park dumpster. I did save one of the Norcold racks and modified it to fit the Haier freezer. The new fridge fit through our door with about an inch to spare on each side. We could have taken the fridge doors off for even more room if needed.

Question has been pretty much answered with what you would see on an oscilloscope, but story short, certain sophisticated electronic devices, such that may be found in a fancy residential ice maker don't get along all that well with a MSW and could ruin the ice maker.
However, we've run ours and in our RV type Dometic OEM for some years, with no ill effects. Something isn't right with it, right now, but most sure it has nothing to do with the source type of power.

Looks like the question was already answered but I have not been online since the question was asked of my post. A MSW Modified Sine Wave inverter looks like more like a square wave (or has steps to create the sine wave vs a PSW Pure Sine Wave which looks the same as 120VAC from the utility company. Some electronics do not like the MSW or will have a reduced lifespan. There are a mix of refrigerator models out there and as they get more electronics in them such as the water and ice dispensers there seems to be a consensus that PSW are better for the electronic, I do know that many are using a MSW inverter on the Samsung units for years without issue. The new motor homes I have looked at recently use PSW inverters.

Mr wizard ... Actually , my Magic Chef VISSANI draws 1.4 Amps for running ... and 4.3 Amps at startup.
This is one of the reasons I bought it , since the Behind-The-Scenes support is much cheaper.

Thanks for all the comments there is some valuble info here. I already have a 3 kw PSW inverter and 6 batteries plus 300 W solar so that should not be an issue.

I hate the though of loosing the 3 drawers and don't mind a top freezer so I'm continuing to look at options.

If you read thru other refrigerator threads
You will find you need enough inverter to power the the lock rotor amps of the compressor
My fridge draws about 100 watts running, but over 900w startup
The listed LRA on the compressor is 14 amps aka over 1400watts

I think I have decided on the XANTREX PROwatt 600.
I am happy with their price ... $169 ..... and I no longer need to worry about running away from a midnight fire in my Homer Simpson shorts.

The Magic Chef fridge does have LOTS more room also.

I used this: Refrigerator. Had to cut the opening 1/2 wider. Then I took one drawer that was below the old fridge out and built a plywood platform for the new fridge to sit on where it was. Lost 1 drawer. Who cares. Lagged the Fridge down to the platform on the backside of it through the old Fridges lower vent outside. Plugged it into existing A/C outlet. All you need is a good saw and the guts to make some modifications. Now I have twice the room I had in the old so called "refrigerator". The only disadvantage is the ice cream if hard to get out of the container but 15 seconds in the microwave solves that issue. Added a wireless thermometer with a display on the dashboard so on really long trips I can start the generator if needed but if the fridge is packed a day in advance and not opened during a trip, you can go for hours. I find it's best to have it full-full. We take gallons of water with us so we store them in the fridge for "bulk". Helps hold the cold longer.

The old broken "Nevercold" brand "refrigerator" went away on Craigslist as a "parts only" unit for $100 bucks. If yours is working you could get most of the cost of a new fridge out of it.

I'd never go back. Took some effort but it is a BIG upgrade for us.

A AC motor running on MSW loses about 20 percent efficiency. Some electronic board seem to fail sooner on MSW. One of the reasons many like Samsung refrigerators is the compressors are DC motors, not AC.

Replaced a working 2007 Norcold 1200 series SS little over a month ago with a residential , sold on Craig's list within 12 hrs for $400. Also swapped the modified sine wave inverter with a pure sine wave and that sold on Craig's list within 24hrs.
