There is no legal requirement for an RVIA certification of any RV. RVIA certification is available only to RVIA members, and not all RV manufacturers choose to participate. All RV's do of course, have to meet the pertinent federal DOT, NFPA, and ANSI standards, and/or the equivalent Canadian standards if manufactured or offered for sale there.
Correct, They used to have a name for NON RVIA RV's----Gypsy Trailers. They were built by meager start up's for cheap units and after they made a quick profit, they shut down. Doug
I don't think I would call the high end custom 5th wheels that companies like Forks or Augusta turn out "gypsy trailers", Doug, even though they're not RVIA certified. :B
YOU have not been in the RV business as long as I have(45 years). There are hundreds of Gypsy RV makers over those years that started up, made CHEAP Trailers and then went out of business. There obviously RV makers out there that will not subscribe to the RVIA. But, WHY? The RVIA has minimum standards for their members and to have that seal is a plus. Doug
