Roadside Assistance - Tires

I have asked a couple questions on the Forum and have received great advice and instruction, so I will ask another. My wife and I are about to start traveling now that we are both retired and I am wondering how you get roadside assistance for tire issues (flat, blowout, etc?). Specifically who do you call - your insurance company, tire manufacturer, extended warranty provider, a vendor found on an internet search???? Thank you.

  • Good Sam versus coach net.
Good Sam has it's detractors on these pages.
Remember that Good Sam has a place for you to vent about GSRA but coachnet has no such place to vent and it is doubtful someone would come here to beachh about coachnet.
Your automobile policy may not give you the coverage you need. for example some auto policies will not cover off a PAVED road. Good Sam will. If you tow a trailer and the truck breaks down some auto policies will not pay to have the trailer towed to a campground.
Auto insurance as roadside assistance is not a great plan.
I see you bought a diesel pusher. Coachnet and Good Sam will dispatch a mechanic to help you roadside. SOme policies will not.

I have had good service from Good Sam roadside.

    2 caveats
If you get antsie sitting by the side of the road for an hour or two waiting for someone to come a roadside assistance policy may not be for you. SOmetimes you will be broke down close to a business that COULD provide the service but the roadside service will be provided by someone an hour away. It is a matter of who the road side service has a contract with.
MAKE SURE YOU READ THE CONTRACT. Understand what you are buying. Seems to me most dissatisfied people have an unrealistic expectation of what they purchased and do nor know what is in the contract.

Just buy a EMRS policy from Good Sam or Coach net. When you have at tire problem, just them and they will send A tow truck to you.
  • When you call roadside assistance, like CoachNet, they will want to know IF you have a spare, either mounted on rim or unmounted. They will mount an unmounted tire for free or install your spare tire for free. They will also bring out a replacement tire, either new or used, depending on what is available. You will pay for that tire and sometimes will have no choice as to what brand of tire it is. If the tire that failed is under some kind of a warranty, you will have to find a place to store it in your coach until you can take it to a dealer to get reimbursed.
  • Whomever you have PAID for roadside assistance.
Or get out your smart phone and do a search for truck tire service shops in the area.....and be prepared to pay a couple of hundred for the service call.

Of those you listed, only your insurance company sometimes includes it with the policy; other times available at extra cost.

For 3rd party roadside service insurance providers, the already mentioned Coach-Net seems to get the best reviews on here but you must subscribe in advance.

If you have a brand new high end rig, the dealer or manuf. might provide it "free" for a period.

P.S. To get roadside tire service with most plans you MUST have a workable mounted spare that will hold air.
