Roadtrek Floor

Hi, Yesterday, we looked at a 1996 Roadtrek 190 Popular. It was in good condition for the age. However, one thing i'm wondering about is the floor pan for the shower. When i step on it, in the middle, it feels spongy. Is this normal? Does anyone know what is under it (plywood?)? I was thinking that if the drain had leaked, it would rot out the subfloor, however, it could also just as well be the pan has a wee bit of warp to it & it's "oilcanning". Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, Gary

  • Thanks for the replies! I do believe it is as you say & just the f/g pan that flexes a bit. The 'spongy' description was maybe just my feeling, perhaps i should of said it had some give to it.
Anyway, my wife & i like this unit, so i think we're going to get serious & have it checked out. The owner just had a lot of things fixed on it that, singularly aren't much, but together adds up to quite a bit! So that's a bonus. I'll let y'all know if we get it. Thanks, Gary
  • Roadtrek dropped aisle floors of that vintage had some flex to them, but I would not call it spongy.

The dropped floor is completely fiberglass, there is no wood or bracing involved. It is supported completely by the flange around the edges of the hole cut in the original metal van floor.

I'd suggest you crawl underneath with a bright light and have a look while someone walks on the floor above. What you're describing could be perfectly normal.
  • Have a RT 2002 Pop and I have a very small amount of flex in the lowered fiberglass floor. It has always been that way, not been a problem and has never changed in the amount of flex. I don't know what is under the fiberglass floor, but I feel it is metal braces from the sound and not plywood.
