Roof replacement 2000 Bounder

We need a new roof on our 2000 Bounder and have quotes from both Camping World at about $2000 and Lazy Days at $5000. Lazy Days says thats because the entire roof will have to be replaced in order for the new material to adher to it. Having just soent $5000 for all new brakes I am not keen on the hugh quote but not sure if the CW one will last. The patch we have on mow is about 30"by40" and has started flapping when we drive so need it fixed.
  • CW price is for only peeling old rubber off and replacing with new. Given the age if the MH and we may upgrade in a year or two, thinking that might be all we need. Just not sure at thisoint what to do. Lazy Days did not inckude any of the stuff you mentioned either just remove the rubber then the second layer of plywood..Luan I think its called and replacing rubber. So need to confirm if that layer needs to be replaced.
  • On my 20 year old 5th wheel, I had one of the RV Detailers in the RV Resort coat the roof membrane with the two step process sealant.

They charged $85.00 and that included washing the rv after application to get rid of the gunk from the initial roof cleaning. After cleaning the roof they applied a bonding agent. When the bonding agent dried they resealed all of the seams and around the vents then applied the new coating.

It's like having a new membrane on the roof.
  • Like you I'm in the market for a new roof on our 1996 Georgie Boy Cruisemaster. I spoke with an RV shop in Sanford, Florida and they gave me a ballpark estimate of $5,000. They said that did not include the cost of replacing the roof vents, skylight and any damaged plywood. This price was given for a 34 foot motorhome. The new roof could be for one of those spray on materials. Not sure I want that type. I will be happy with just a new rubber roof.

The price you have from Camping World, $2000, sounds too cheap. Make sure you ask what that price includes and what IS NOT included in the price.

I'll be following this thread because I sure others on the forum will give you some great advice.
  • 5K is over priced. About 1500 is material so the rest is labor. Ask for a complete break down of their estimates to see where their getting the numbers
