Does anybody know of an alternative cleaner, maybe a household item, for removing dirt and chalk prior to applying the rubber roof coating? Thanks for any input.
Big boulder,
When we had our previous coach, a '99 Fleetwood Bounder 34V, I used all kinds of stuff to keep that rubber roof clean. Dish soap, Cleanser, car-wash soap and even one time, bleach. The bleach did the best in getting it white. Of course I had to rinse it like the devil so as to not goof up the sides of the fiberglass due to run-off.
But, all of them worked. When done with each different cleaner, I made sure it was thoroughly dry and did very close-up inspections of the membrane to see if it there was any form of damage or, deterioration due to using something "outside the box". And, there wasn't. That roof was in great shape for quite some time.
I eventually did the "Dicor" treatment which, entailed a thorough cleaning, then a "Cleaner/prep" for getting ready for the final two coats of topping. Once those two coats were on there, man, that thing looked better than when it was new. Good luck.
