For what it's worth, here's what we do for absolute safety with long generator run times (i.e. for A/C in the summer heat):
We close all vents and windows except for one roof vent with a multi-speed reversible fan in it. We set the fan on LOW and to AIR IN. This causes the fan to maintain a slight pressure all over inside the living area, hence the physics of it absolutely prevent any generator fumes from entering any opening, anywhere, no matter how small. The A/C recirculates the interior air all the time and a small amount of fresh air (from up high on the roof) gets added to the interior air, too. This system works like a champ.
This roof vent fan air pressure trick also works to keep dust out of the interior when traveling on unpaved roads heading to/from camp sites.
