SAD, SAD, News today

I was stuck in traffic for 5 hours Saturday trying to get to CW of Nashville for
some service on my MH.

When I got back home last night learned what had happened, and why Interstate 65 was shut down. A Nashville police officer was killed by a motor home. I think there is a allot of lessons that can be learned from this story.

RIP Officer Petrina, my thoughts a prayers go out to your family .

  • Terrible.. but I can attest to a previous comment about pulling over or not as the case may be. I almost hit an officer and his car once. The vehicle that was pulled over was well off the road but the officer stopped with his car half way into traffice just over the crest of a hill. WOW .. he almost got hit by three in front of me too.
  • One can only hope that police forces all over the country re-evaluate the management of stopped vehicles along the side of the road. There seems to be a prevailing thought that if they block enough of the flow of traffic, somehow they will be safer. It should be very obvious this idea does not work. I can't for the life of me figure out how the greatest disturbance of traffic flow is thought to provide the greatest amount of safety. Its a failed philosophy that needs a major rethinking. That and the super bright LED flashers that blind drivers so they can't see. You have lights blinding your vision and you are supposed to change lanes?

Of course I feel bad for the family of the officer. My comments are not intended to be a reflection on his judgement, but rather a judgement of the prevailing philosophy regarding traffic flow around a traffic stop.
  • What a terrible tragedy for everyone connected to the accident. So sad for the young officer's loved ones and fellow officers. And we can only imagine how devastated the driver of the motorhome must feel.
  • Very very sad for the driver and victim. I know the feeling with the new 'strict' law about moving over a lane when presented with an accident and/or squad car on the shoulder. It is very difficult if not impossible to get over with a MH towing. As the driver said he could not and chose to go between the vehicles. Prayers for both families.
