Safari with RR4R chassis

I am looking to purchase a 40SRT Cheetah that has a RR4R chassis. The dealer is checking to see if the recall was accomplished and will correct if not done. It also has a Koni suspension optional upgrade ( I believe for the sway bar). It appears to drive and ride nice.
Should I be concerned if the recall is taken care of?

  • I have a 2003 Safari 36' DP Cheetah. I am the original owner and Monaco replaced my trailing arms twice under warranty but neither was adequate. I replaced them with the Source Engineering trailing arms about 3 years ago. Much stronger/heavier and vastly improved the ride. It cots about $3,500 with the labor. Well worth it. Not a big job, but needs to be done by someone who knows what he is doing. I had mine done by the local Detroit Diesel/ Allison dealer. It is especially important if you tow anything.
  • I would not be concerned about buying one with the defective arms-- just subtract the amount needed to install the new ones.

And, get it done before using it.

  • A truck service center mgr that does lots of MH work told me that the fix a a must(my parents have a Monaco)-if it hasn't been done don't make the deal...
  • Slight correction-- there were a number of the poor design trailing arms that were replaced with more poor design trailing arms.

You need to verify (very easy visually)that the new DESIGN trailing arms were used-- either from Source Engineering (the stronger ones) or the NEW Monaco Corp (likely quite adequate and a big improvement over the original ones.
