Santa Rosa New Mexico to Deming on 54 to 26

Anyone try that route through Alamogordo instead of going to I-25 and down? Looks like less miles but if not a good road and lot's of slow down it may be slower than just staying on Interstate.

  • Totally agree on the Deming museum and NEW Mexican food (which is different than Mexican food in the use of a lot of green chiles).
  • When you get to Deming, I highly recommend a tour of the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum. We stumbled into it when we stopped for lunch and spent hours in there. We made our return trip back through Deming so that we could tour the rest of the museum.

Great little Mexican diner down the street also.

  • Great road, easy drive. There's a Space Museum in Alamagordo, and don't miss the White Sands National Monument....we go that way if the weather goes south in the northern routes......Dennis
  • Thanks Brett. Always looking to get off the freeway for awhile.
  • Bob,

Good road. And "Valley of Fire" is just west of your route. Further south is White Sands. Both worth your time-- if you have the time.

Yes, right before Las Cruces, you will have a climb/descent, but nothing radical.

I would not hesitate to take that route.
