Servel S819 not cooling from propane

I have just joined the forum and am a new owner of a '92 Fleetwood TIOGA Arrow. Everything has been well kept on it and mostly all works OK except the fridge will only work on AC and not on gas. When I switch it to Gas I see that the igniter gets it going and can hear and feel the burners working but it doesn't cool at all.
If anyone has any suggestions as to where to start on finding the problem please let me know as I'm heading to the NASCAR race in Ft. Worth this weekend.

Thanks in advance,
Jake

  • Hey guys,
A note to anyone getting an RV that has been sitting for a long period of time without the fridge running. The sediment in the Ammonia tank settles and blocks the flow. I've had the fridge on for 3 days now and just this morning it was cold. It's also quite picky about being level when parked so I'm going to get a better level that I can sit on the glass tray of the fridge when leveling the RV.
  • Well, as it turns out I switched over to AC and the fridge didn't work on that either. I'm going to try and troubleshoot it tomorrow and see if I can figure out what is going on. It definitely worked when I bought it a month ago so I'm hoping it's not to difficult to find the problem. I talked to the original owner and he said it worked fine when he brought it in from the Rance about 2 months ago. So starts my RV journey!!..
  • There will be plenty of skilled RV mechanics at a Nascar race camping... Most will be happy to share some of their vast knowledge and years of experience in helping you troubleshoot your problem... Might cost you a few beers for the effort but I've seen some ingenious ideas on older customized RVs over the years...

Thanks guys, I will probably just use the AC and run the generator at the races this weekend and then start troubleshooting the problem with the service manual when I have time. I suspect the upper PC board as the unit ignites and I hear the burner working, and this RV had been sitting for almost 2 years when I bought it so a bad connection or something in that area is highly possible.

Unit ignites and hear burner working.........sitting for 2 yrs

That is an indication of dirty burner, flue, flue baffle.
Heat is being generated but is not being transferred.

  • Check the propane orifice to make sure it is not blocked. You can remove it and soak it in alcohol for a few minutes. Then blow it out with low pressure air. Reinstall. Should hear a kind of roar when burner is operating properly. But not as loud as water heater.
  • Could be as simple as dirty flue, low DC voltage, low propane pressure
OR could be Upper PC board, wiring

HERE is a Service Manual to help troubleshoot
