Sewer compartment on 2002 Itasca Suncruiser

Anyone who owns this or older Winnebago/Itasca might know what I'm writing about, and probably the only ones who could offer suggestions.

The hole in the floor of the sewer compartment is too small to put through the normal bayonet fitting on the end of the sewer hose. I have struggled for a few years with this. If I sit on a stool for about 10 minutes and wiggle the fitting this way and that way, tilt it just right...I sometimes get it through...after being thoroughly frustrated.

I can usually put the other end piece through with a little less frustration, but then I have to string the whole length of the hose through the hole. I don't like to do that because of wear on the hose (hits the edges).

I just bought a Rhinoflex hose and this one is really impossible to get through the hole.

Any suggestions from someone who has the same hole? Sorry for how that sounds :)

  • We used either the Valterra Dominator or Viper hoses on our 2001 Adventurer for over 12 years with no problems. The key is to tilt the coupling to start one of the bayonets through the smaller section of the hole first. It took a few try's to get used to it, but once you get the pattern down it only takes a few seconds to thread it through the hole.

The Rhino Flex may be a different story, however there are solutions available. Some people use this short section of hose and connect to the larger hose outside the cabinet.

I would caution you not to modify the floor of the cabinet to get the hose through. The cabinet has a flange built into the floor that adds strength. If the flange is cut the floor will become flexible and eventually crack.
  • that is one reason I went to the Prest-O-fit ??? type of fittings as they would easily go into storage and thru holes. the best fix is to go to a macerator or sewer solution and do away with the stinky slinky.

  • Don't have a 2002 Itasca, but this is what Tiffin used on our 2006 Phaeton. Works quite well. My complaint is the sewer hose access for ours is so close to the ground at most campsites, that I end up leaving the basement door cracked for the hose and instead of running the it through the the hose access to keep from draining up hill.
