Shakedown cruise

We purchased a nice used 2007 Gulfstream BT Cruiser last week, and we're taking it this coming weekend on our first shakedown cruise. Been packing and getting her ready since last week, as it seems there isnt much time after work. We can't wait, especially since the weather is still supposed to be nice! :B
  • I had to replace the original propane leak detector in our 2004 rig a few months ago. The company that made the original white pastic detector here in So Cal went out of business. The brown one sold as a direct replacement came with two wires instead of three and was physically smaller than the original one. I had to epoxy some pieces of wood into the hole in the cabinet for the new unit to fit.I just connected the red and black wires to the existing red and black wires leaving third one disconnected. Check to make sure power to the detector stays on with auxiliary/house battery switch off and check operation per the directions.
  • Well, we did a shakedown last weekend in our '05 Gulfstream Yellowstone, new to us.

So we were shaking the first time the propane leak detector sounded, about 11:15pm. Went outside & turned off the propane, just in case it was detecting a leak we couldn't smell. The second time, 90 minutes later, we were cussing.

When it alerted a third time, 85 minutes after that, we covered the intake up & went back to sleep.

Our local RV place says the same thing I read here: The detectors have a service life of a certain time period, and after that they may fail in the ON position.

Aside from this, everything worked wonderfully. But I was really glad we tested our systems before we set out for the first 7 day event where we'll be using the C as housing during the competition.

Congrats and hope everythibg goes well. If anything like me, you will be re-arranging things during and after many trips.
  • Have a great time! We've been doing our shakedown "cruises" for several months now and couldn't be happier with the experience. We learn every trip and are getting more and more comfortable with the routine. We just pulled our motorcycle trailer on our latest trip. A success, now looking in to the best way to tow our Prius. Keep good trip logs and keep on the go!
  • Enjoy your shakedown trip, be sure to take a pad to write down things you should have but don't.

    Welcome to the forum.
  • Congrats on your new rig. I hope you have many safe and happy trips!
