Sharp R-7A85 Microwave Trouble Shooting

The Microwave/Convection oven worked long enough to warm up dinner on our first night on the road, of the first trip of the year!

I can find no troubleshooting information.. No lights, no nothing...Everything else seems to work OK, so I don't believe it's an endemic a/c power issue... Anyone know if there is a fuse inside the built in unit? And more importantly, what you have to remove to find said fuse?

Thanks in advance!

  • You can buy alot of microwave popcorn for the price of that Tiffin! I think you are ahead of the game! Congrats on the fix! Thanks for reporting back.
  • Ok. Wife said fix it, buy me a new micro\convection, or a new RV with one that works!

There in fact was power at the outlet.. Got the front panel off... Found the fuse, checked it for continuity.. it was toast!

Took wife RV shopping anyway while we were on the way to a parts place for a 20 amp fuse..

Replaced fuse, plugged the unit back in and it lit back up..Ran a few cycles and it was still working, so I buttoned it back up..

No new class A today, but that Tiffin RED Open Road is very tempting!!!

  • If could be the door interlock switch gone bad. Actually, there may be more than one, but the bottom one may be more prone to failure. If you are technically inclined, you can check these switches with an ohmeter. Switch contacts should be closed when door is closed.

You also could have a failed magnetron power supply, or bad magnetron. Harder for a DIYer to diagnose and repair, but if you are into this sort of thing, it's doable. Parts are available online. If you take it to a shop, it may cost you the better part of just buying a new one.

BTW, is it a microwave/convection oven? If so, soes it work on convection?
  • Every oven I've opened has a glass in line fuse on the circuit board.
  • Can you get to where the micro is plugged in? Mine just plugs into a receptacle on the back wall in an adjacent cabinet. If accessible, you could check if it is getting power there and determine if the unit itself is bad. I realize perhaps this is obvious and you already tried.
  • Tiffin Allegro Bay. 1995. No inverter. All gfi's ok. That i've found!!

Also,no breakers blown. All have been thrown off, then reset to on...

All a\c circuts seem normal ops...
  • My microwave works off of the inverter BUT it is on a separate circuit breaker on the inverter itself. This not a circuit breaker in your electrical panel but one of those located on the front/side of the inverter.
  • You don't give much info on your rig, but on mine, the circuit for the micro/conv oven is tied to a breaker directly on the inverter. There is a second breaker that controls other receptacles.
