Side Cameras

I dislike the side cameras too! I think they're useless! I'm guessing the OP is having issues with lane changes on the highway, not while making low speed turns in town.

When I change lanes, I want to see when my toad clears the vehicle I'm passing. That can't be done by the side cameras because you can't get any depth perception. The only time I find them of any value is maybe once a year to look down the side of the coach when backing in. Even then I have to put the coach in neutral and the turn signal on.

If you have a good set of mirrors, which means a main mirror and convex mirror on each side, you shouldn't have any issues with safely changing lanes.

With all that said, I agree with "Mr.Mark", don't disconnect them, just learn to drive without them. I give a quick turn signal and then turn them off while making my lane change. In town during slow speed turns, leaving the turn signal on really doesn't matter.

I would think if you can not turn off the 'camera feature', just turn on the turning signal just as you start the turn then turn it off.

Obviously, you need to do what is comfortable to you.

I can't see the curbs so much out of of the rear camera, mainly, just the full view of the tow vehicle. I can get a much clearer view by watching my side mirrors. I use the side view camera's as an extra set of 'eyes' along the side.

Since our toad is so much narrower than the coach, curbs would not be a problem. I would be hitting the curb with my coach first before the toad even thinks about it. LOL!

But, I understand what you want and I would think there is something that you can flip or unwire to turn off the side camera's.

I have a 2009 chev malibu. When I am turning I prefer to watch the mirrors and then check the back camera to make sure the car clears all curbs, as when turning I can see the tires closest to the curb or object.

You can turn them off via the menu. Or rather change the triggers to all point to the central cam. I disabled mine. I didn't like having to look at the center of the dash instead of keeping my eyes up an to my mirrors. I can also see my toad better with central only.

I assume the Op wants to turn on his turn signs and still see the rear view in his monitor not have it automatically switch to the side view camera.
Personally I wouldn't do this as there is nothing to see in the std rear view other than the front of the toad. That said wouldn't disconnecting the turn signal wires to the system accomplish that? don't disconnect the Cameras themselves . That stops the automatic transfer of the monitor to the side cameras and still leaves them avail via the monitor controls. The system I have can't be disabled if the turn signals are wired into the loop.

I, too, would think that once you are making your turn, you will see the toad better in the mirrors vs. the rear camera.

When I first start off in the mornings, I check that the tires are rolling on the Honda when I make my first turn through the side mirrors (usually when pulling out of the RV site). You can't see the tires through the rear camera.

What are you wanting to see through the rear camera that is more important than the side camera and side view mirrors? The toad is going to follow you no matter what.

You don't have your toad listed in your signature so if you have an unusual set-up, we are wondering.

I have a Voyager three camera system and by going through the "menu" on the monitor I believe that you can disable any of the cameras. My side cameras ONLY come on when I turn on the turn signals. Until then, the ONLY thing I see on my monitor is the rear camera view.

I wouldn't disable them, but don't rely on them. We ran across 2 people with major damage on the side that relied on those side cameras, and said they wont do that anymore!

No harm to leave them as is
