Slide out problem, doesn't close all the way

2001 Coachmen Class C: While closing my slide out today it closed all the way on one side and has a 3-4 inch gap on the other like the whole slide is crooked. I looked at the screws on both sides and they both are turning. I tried manually cranking but made no difference. I tried pushing on the slide which did nothing.

When I open it one side is flush with the wall and the other has a gap so its consistent whether open or shut.

Thankfully its in my driveway, I was getting it ready for a trip to Curry Hammock next week. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • I solve the problem. This slide has a bar between the gearbox on each side. On each end of the bar is a pin with a cotter pin through it.

I removed the pin on one side and the bar slide off the gearbox shaft. I then used the hand crank to even the left side with the right.

BTW the left side had hit the drivers seat before so I assumed that was the side out of whack.

I put it back together and it works perfect now. I do have a small gap at the top seal but its flush at the bottom. Maybe after our trip I will let an RV shop fine tune the adjustment, at least now we can go camping!

Well I learned how the slide works now. For the record the brand of the slide is Liftco.

    Thanks for the assistance!
  • I found nothing in the way, I looked it over as well as I could. I manually cranked it in and still have one side closed normally against the body and the other with a 4 inch gap. I believe it is in a real bind, the gearbox was skipping gears as I cranked it.
  • I know this sounds stupid, but do you have anything in the way on the inside of the coach?

I take it that you have tried extending it out and bringing it back numerous times?
  • I noticed on the outside, on each side is a large nylon/ plastic roller bushing. On the left side it is riding tightly against the slide body, on the right side there is a 3/4 inch gap between the bushing and the body. Right side arms are very tight, left side very loose.

Also it no longer will go in or out more than about 4 inches when you press the button. I will next try to remove power to motor and manually move it. If that works well enough I will leave it until we get back from the Keys, manually extending it on vacation. Else I'll call a mobile RV mechanic since I need a solution by next Saturday.
  • electric or hydraulic? Oops just read `screws' so that answers that. Mine is off about 1/2 inch and never did anything about it. There must be a way to unhook the screws and readjust the travel but I never tried it and the factory guys, at a rally, said it was normal!
