Slide Problem

Probably not a HUGE issue, but I don't want it to develop a leak....

I noticed the other day when rolling the slide in to get rainwater off the topper that the slide when fully retracted didn't quite go all the way in on the front lower corner....only noticeable from the outside and only slightly not against the side of the coach. I pushed on that corner slightly and it goes in for the seal to contact the side of the coach, but comes right back out again when I release pressure. I noticed today, when extending the slide, the same corner seems to go all the way out and when I release the button it rocks back in slightly. I tried retracting it again and it does the same thing...it comes all the way in and then when I release the button it rocks back out slightly on that corner.

The slide extends and retracts equally on both sides and feels stable when fully out or in. I am very OCD about keeping the rails and gears lubed with dry lube, and have not noticed it not sealing completely before.

Any ideas of where to start looking for problems?

  • Follow-up.....

So I finally got time to look for the problem and found a very simple fix.... the bolts that connect the slide motor to the connecting shafts had sheared. Half the bolts were still in the holes, but the other halves were laying in the bin underneath. I replaced them with the proper Grade 8 bolts and locknuts, tightened all the others and now everything works just fine!

I have a similar coach on a DP chassis. Your slide assembly may be similar to mine. My unit has a powerGear slide assembly.

I suspect your slide motor brake is set in the wrong position, or is not working. If the slide motor brake is ok, then I think you need to adjust the slide. My slide does not move back out slightly after closing. I think it is the brake on the slide motor that holds the slide when the switch is released.

I have several PowerGear documents about the slide operation and adjustment. If you want me to send them to you, give me your email address in a private message, and I will send them to you. Hopefully they may help.

After re-reading your post, I noticed your statement

. This may indicate some loose bolts/nuts in the slide assembly on that side only. You might want to check for loose fasteners on that side also.
