Slow moving Speeder

Is it possible to be exceeding the speed limit and still be considered a slow moving vehicle? For example: you are traveling in your motorhome going 60 mph in a 55mph zone. You have numerous vehicles behind you because no one likes to be behind a Motorhome, trailer, 5th wheel, etc. Are we required to use the turnouts even though we are speeding. I always let everyone pass when possible because I do not like the pressure of having vehicles behind me. At 60 plus mph turnouts can be a problem. I hate to have to pull over and hard slow or stop when I am going plenty fast. Many states have laws that if you are slow and there are 5 vehicles behind you you must use the turn outs. Am I slow if I am speeding?

  • This is a common problem in California since everyone seems to be in a hurry no matter how dangerous the road is.

Well I would say you would have a good fight in court for the law to prove you were obstructing traffic while speeding.

I do try to pull over if there are 5 or more vehicles behind me. I usually get thankful beeps from the folks as they speed pass while I'm waiting in the turnout, which makes me feel like I did the right thing.
  • I would say no but you're in a totally different country in California than I am in Tennessee. Things are different there LOL!
  • Yes, you should use the lane to let people by. That from one who drives at or under the posted speed, sometimes well under.

  • I cannot say exactly which states but some states will give you a ticket if you are slower than traffic behind you even if you are going posted or above speed limit. It does not may a lot of sense to me
