Slow Shower Drain

Hi Folks,

Our class A has developed a slow drain in the shower, making it somewhat of a hot tub when showering!

I know at home that it's a pretty simple matter of buying some Draino and letting it do the work. However, I am unsure if this method would work on the drains of the RV, and/or if by doing so would harm any of the system in any way,

So the question is: what is the best way to deal with a slow drain in an RV?

Thanks for any help the fine folks here can provide!

  • White cleaning vinegar and baking soda. pour in some baking soda followed by vinegar let it bubble for 15 min. followed by hot water.
  • My drain has been draining slower and slower lately. After reading this post, I checked my X drain. Bingo, that was my problem! Thanks to the bear II and the rest of you that helped. It's draining like it did when it was new.
  • Not sure this may help, but this happened to us.

The gray tanks have air vents to the roof. They can become clogged. If they do your drains will not work well! Also, our rig has a pro-vent under the kitchen sink. That thing went bad and also created a slow drain condition. They do require replacement after a number of years.

Maybe that will provide you with additional sources to investigate if the hair removal things don't work?
  • Heck a pair of needle nose plyers will get gunk out of the X trap without the need for anything else tools
  • X3. I wouldn't use Drano on your fragile plasic piping. You didn't state if you've always had this problem or just recently.

If recent, it's probably just a matter of removing hair on the above-mentioned X crossbar. We keep an old pair of tweezers just for this purpose. Not pleasant but has to be done occasionally.

There are two screens the one you can see and one below that one. Pop up the first screen and you'll see an X in the drain pipe. This X will catch hair and gunk, eventually it will slow or stop the drain. Use tweezers or I use a small blade pocket knife to pick out the hair and gunk. Or the Zip-it will work.

X2, I just use a wire with the end bent to make a hook. It works to get all of the DW hair out of the drain and it flows good again for a while. JMO
