- kiwidancerExplorerThe Axis/Vegas (Class A) is only 25 ft long and has a very large storage area. You can look for videos online if you don't have one nearby to go see in person. Good luck!
- mena661ExplorerLike someone else mentioned, you might be well served with a unit that has pass through storage.
- tatestExplorer IILook for "Garage" models which have a space sized to hold several bicycles or even a couple of small off-road motorcycles. Your telescope packages would go easily into that type of space.
I've seen these in C motorhomes and 30-32 foot A gassers. The space is usually under an elevated queen bed, sometimes beyond the end of the chasis frame rails, with the house frame built lower than the chassis rails to create the space. I know Coachmen or Fourwinds had one when I was looking in 2004-5, would have been Mirada or Hurricane, and model was something like 30Q or 30QB.
There are garage models in C motorhomes where the storage space is actually interior, with exterior access. Often sized to a bicycle or two, the space is alternatively bunks when the bulky load is removed. - PamelaWExplorerThanks n7bsn! The telescope is made to come apart for transport and the solar scope has a metal case but I need a failry large space to put it-don't want to be moving it all the time!
- n7bsnExplorerI carry my 5 inch NexStar under the dinning table. That's because it's in a well padded case.
If I was carrying it loose, or dis-assembled I would be concerned that I would need to re-culminate the telescope. The vibration in an RV can be far more then in a car. - PamelaWExplorerThank you Mr-MrsPete-I'll check those out-we didn't want to go too big as we love Baja and all the smaller roads:)
- Mr-MrsPeteExplorerJust an FYI PamelaW, don't get too picky with the length. I personally just bought a Thor Seronna, it is 33' diesel puller. I wanted a diesel also but to find them at that length is few and far between. Not that they can't be found but there are many of them. They do have a 31' Seronna with a large pass through compartment in the rear, sounds like something you may be interested in.
- PamelaWExplorerThanks FB Grateful Dad-the telescope is pretty sturdy once packed up-we pack it around in the back of a Tundra right now-we would like to tow a small car-diesel would be preferable-28-32 feet is what we are looking for more or less.
- FB_Grateful_DadExplorerRegardless of make it sounds as if you will need a rig with a pass through storage bay. This should also provide additional stability for your scope. What about securing it an minimizing bouncing? How sensitive are the optics? That said it may be difficult to find a 30' rig. Are you towing a car? Do you want gas or diesel? Etc.
- PamelaWExplorerHi Toedtoes-thank you-The 18" Dobsonian breaks down to 25" square with a stacked height of 32"..will need room for fingers to get in and lift it out:)
The truss tubes are 4' long-they can lie flat or vertically
The solar scope case is 36" long by 16" wide by 15" high.
and the tripod is 4' tall by 12" around in it's closed postition it can lie flat or vertically as well.
I see some Class A's have mega storage compartments-the Thor motorhomes I have seen on line but am not sure if there are other manufactures out there with big storage compartments
