We had a 24 foot Minnie Winnie with no slides for over twelve years. We took lots of trips of 5-6 weeks with two kids and two dogs. After all lower 48 states and over 102,000 miles, we just traded in for a 24 foot Winnebago Fuse which is even smaller as it is narrower (although it does have one slide) with a reduced outside height. We love being able to get in and out of places easily and being able to park almost anywhere. The only places we have avoided are big cities. Often near a big city you can find a campground near public transport into the city. We have never towed and have never rented a car. We always take bikes - just bought folding bikes to be even lighter.
It's a very personal decision based on how you like to travel but we find we need to take very little with us (we can't even fill the storage space we have) and we like the mobility of a smaller unit.
