So here's my Story

Sorry for your troubles. FWIW we have had very good experiences with AAA for the three times we had to call them on RV related issues.

I have used the spare a few times in my years of traveling. As soon as I do my next destination becomes a tire store. I don't carry on with the original route sans spare. Something to consider as an alternative.

First off, sorry for your mishap. We have had Allstate Motor Club for years. Had a left front Michelin XRV blowout, called Allstate and gave them all the info, including the tire size. About two hours and a serviceman arrived with a replacement tire and we continued on our way. By the way, the explosion was loud, but I DID not slam on the brakes.

Having a blowout on a duel tire creates a lot of stress on the companion tire is what I have read before. Anybody also hear about this? Good to replace both tires if possible. Interested in other opinions.

We had a rear blowout (explosion) a couple of years ago, rush hour, 8 lanes of traffic running as fast as they could go. I called roadside service and they suggested that I get off of the highway. We limped up the ramp off of the highway and lucky for me there was a tire store in eye sight of where I was. 7 new tires later and I was back on the road. Stressful day to say the least. We had/have Goodsam roadside. I have no complaints. It never got to the point that we needed them to send anyone out to help. They did answer the phone right off and were concerned with our safety first. I was so jacked up at that moment that I never really thought: "We need to get off of this interstate before something worse happens". Cars were blowing by us, inches away at 70+ MPH. It was bad.

WE all make bad decisions from time to time. Yes it will be costly but no one was hurt and you life to RV another day. In the end you get a story out of it and at the end of our lives all we have is our stories.

Wouldn't your insurance pay for the damage done by the blown tire? Not the tire but the damage should be covered.

This thread maybe has a couple of themes. One, the roadside service the couple used or, has been using, for the most part, has been somewhat reliable for them, up to this point. Now, for some odd reason, it became UN-RELIABLE!!! Now, is this a reason to drop them? Well, that's kind-of a reason for argument. It could be this one time that communications were screwed up by all who were involved in the RSS system, THIS TIME.

But, would or, could this happen again, to the same couple? Who knows. And, as for any of the Road Side Services being any better than any other one, that's a simple matter of opinion. We've all read horror stories of how the different companies of RSS have failed the clients at one time or another. Is there any ONE of them that has NEVER failed ANY of the clients they have? I doubt it.

I think it's really a luck of the draw. When you sign up for Road Side Service, any of them, you hope that you get good RSS response, if and when needed. Will it happen, the odds are, it will. But, a screw up can and will happen, every now and then. Take your pick.

As for the other themes of this thread, the OP had some bad luck, PERIOD! He got going again, albeit after a bit of frustration, only to have it happen again. Talk about BAD LUCK! Then, he tried to drive with a bad tire and did more damage, at least is sounds that way to me. Well, I might have done the same thing, calculating a risk, to get to a place that was safer, nicer and more known, to complete repairs. Well, he goofed up. But, I suspect he'll get things fixed and, move on with life.

I'm sorry you are having to go through all this and I hope it won't be horribly expensive to fix everything.

Thanks for sharing your story. It, along with a couple other recent posts of this nature, are making me re-think traveling on Sunday - especially since we don't carry a spare.

I disagree, this is about the roadside service. Why post it then? Did you file a claim/grievance with them after the fact? If you did, what was the result?
