Spare Tire....How many of you carry one?

My Ford E450 chassis does not have a factory one installed underneath behind rear axle. I would like to install one in that location. Are they available from Ford or another source?

YES to carrying a spare tire. For any and all the reasons above. Our older Holiday had a "Continental Kit" molded into the rear end cap. Sweet! Tire was right there and out of sight. On this Jayco, the spare was mounted "Lollipop Style" with a vertical bracket that clamped to the square steel box bumper. Like others have reported, the square bumper steel started to tear where welded to its frame brackets. Tire's been under the queen bed since. Like it? NO!!! Want a Spare more than the Inconvenience? YES!!!
I don't think I'd mount a spare to the back wall of an RV that either wasn't designed to support that weight, or where I could not find that it was adequately framed. I just might do a hybrid: REST the tire on the square bumper but hold it in place with a mounting on the rear wall. I don't think the weight of the spare is what tears the bumper. I think it's the leverage that weight gets when it's up on the Lollipop Mount.

Mine is mounted under the frame with a wench similar to that one. GS mounted it there. In 10 years I have needed it 2 times.
Would not be without one.

On my previous Winnebago View there was one mounted under the rig right behind the rear axle. On our new Super C(waiting for them to finish it now) there is no spare but I don't know about anyone else but I'm not about ready to try and wrestle a 22.5 tire and rim and install it on the rig. I had enough trouble with 19.5s and 22.5s are even heavier.

I think I'll be waiting for road site assistance for a tire repair.

We've found that we cannot always get cellular reception to call ERS on certain highways out West ... and off-highway where we sometimes travel (if ERS would even venture onto gravel or dirt roads if we could phone them).

However, our Class C is small enough that I COULD unmount our 16 inch spare from it's storage position and replace a bad running tire if we had to out in the middle of nowhere.

I am also considering not having a spare on my Class C.
Why?
1- I can not physically able change one of the tires any more.
2- My spare is out of date. Has never touched the ground!
When was the last time you checked the "born date" on your spare?
3- Space for carrying the proper jack and having an electric or compressor impact wrench to remove it is a waste.
4- I would end up calling road service anyway.

When I replaced my tires about 2 years ago, I replaced the spare also. It is no older than the tires on the road. I consider it cheap insurance for my family's safety.

I don't carry a jack or lug wrench. I am not going to change my tire, but when roadside assistance gets there, the spare will be ready for them to install.
