SR 299 in N Cali

Any of you travel CA 299 from Redding over to the coast with 40' MH?

I was just looking at the Mountain directory and noticed warning about 30' kingpin to axle restrictions because of hairpins.

I remember doing it several years ago with the fiver in sig and I do remember it being tight in spots. But the truck and fiver had a pivot point (hitch) and the MH doesn't pivot to well :W unless you count the tow bars for the toad.

I'm torn between the bad I5 road surface and driving through SF on the 101. Pick your poison.
  • There are at least three serious climbs and decents on that road. The first one just west of Redding is 15MPH climb over a narrow twisty road. There are at least two more between Weaverville and the coast. Personally, I would either go north to Grants Pass or south to hwy20.
  • Some folks, like myself, enjoy 299, some folks don't. Your length is no problem. Many people just don't like curvy mountain roads.

There are other alternatives, what is point A and what is point B?
