St. Louis

I plan on doing the Great River Road top to bottom later this year in a class a towing. Looks like the real headache will be getting through St. Louis. Any suggestions would be appreciated except the usual BS, and you know who you are.
  • I hit it during a weekend. Still got turned around once. It was about 5 years ago and they had detours and construction. Hope someone can chime in and give you some current input.
  • The only advice i can give is not to pass thru during rush hour especially on Fridays. Been there , done that !!
  • I passed through St Louis twice this month out to DC & back and it was not a headache at all. Yes it was a bit congested but I've seen worse.
  • I do not think the traffic is all that bad especially if you are from the east coast, like I am That said, when you cross the river into St Louis I would advise you stay in middle lane or left lane. I stay in the left lane. The reason is many cars are exiting to the right to get onto I 44/55. ( I am refering to the Poplar Bridge which I believe is the main one people use) The mlk bridge is real easy but takes you to I 70

Just read your post after I posted If you going south you wish to take 255 south A bit longer but no traffic at all At least in the 12 yrs I have lived here
  • If you follow this map of the Great River Road (Illinois section) you will not have to go through St. Louis. Depending on the time of day you pass St.Louis, there may be some traffic but nothing like actually traveling through the city.
