Sta-Bil Fuel Stabilizer

My question is...when & how often do you use Sta-Bil in your gasoline fuel tank?

Usually our motorhome is in storage from mid September till early January. So that means it is setting with the same tank of fuel for about 3 1/2 months. During this storage time frame I always add Sta-Bil to the fuel tank.

We arrived home from Florida in mid April and will not take our next trip till mid June which means the motorhome is setting for 2 months with the same tank of fuel. I'm wondering if I should be adding Sta-Bil for these short 2 months periods of rest.

What do you do? Does Sta-Bil harm the engine in any way?

  • Use Stabil for engines that are going to set thru the winter and in stuff like your snow blower that will be idle thru the summer. Be sure and note the date on the back of the stabil bottle as it has a shelf life.
  • I have been able to find no real negative reviews of Sta-Bil and I have been using it for years, so it can not hurt. Probably not necessary in such a short time, but it can't hurt.
  • A couple of months should not create any problems but add it it if you feel more comfortable. If the unit is going to sit all season add the Sta-bil per instructions on the bottle to the last tank of fuel then run long enough to get the treated gas through the engine. It will not cause the engine any harm and could certainly save you some grief.
