Steps Upon Storage

I feel like an idiot, but I simply CANNOT figure out how to make the steps to my coack (2010 Fleetwood "Discovery") retract when I put it up for storage.

I shut-down the coach, flip the 'disconnect' switches near the floor next to the door, and the steps stay out.

Please someone help remove my idiocy! :-)

    Doug,
I know that in our case snow/ice will freeze up on the stairs making it really hard to close up when I use it in the winter. They also becomes slippery. Closing them up just takes all the 'pia' effect away. :E

I guess in a non-snow environment I would leave them out.
  • I solved that problem on my 2004 Fleetwood, here is what I do. The last thing do after everything else is done is stay inside, make sure the step switch is in the closed position, shut the door, the step comes in, turn the battery disconnect switch OFF, then here is the hard part, open the door, notice that the step stays closed, make a big step to the ground, shut and lock the door, done. You could use a step stool outside but you would have to have someone place it close to the door after the step is closed, I just step down, its a long way down but doable for me. Works for me, step stays in and no battery drain due to the step light staying on.
  • Close the entry door, the steps will retract if the step switch is ON. With the door still closed and steps retracted, turn BOTH disconnects OFF. Open the door and you will have to jump down since the steps are retracted. WHY would you want the steps retracted when you store the RV?????? Doug

On mine I need to close the screen door then put my hand thru the slider opening and hit the step switch. Once the steps have retracted I close the main/outside door then shut the battery disconnects (both chassis and hour).
  • I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. All I can tell you is that on my coach I have a switch that, when on, allows the steps to stay out when the door is closed. Turn that switch off and the steps come in when the door is closed.
Turn the ignition on and the steps will always come in, and stay in, until the door is opened, then they go out.
  • I wonder if your steps are wired on the wrong side of the disconnect so they aren't getting power? Mine are not. I can hit the disconnect, close the door, and they will still retract. But I also have a switch that in one position the stairs remain out with the door closed and in the other the stairs retract whenever the door is closed. Do you have that switch and is it in the right position?
