Steps won't go out

Mine is 16 years old and not potted.

my 1995 has a POTTED replacement control, it installed about 7 yrs ago according to the PO

The box is fastened with Philips head screws about 6. The board slides out of the plastic box horizontally. If you do a search under Gjac I explain this in detail and the replacement relays. I probably have 20 hrs of search time to find the relays.

Ok let me ask this are the relays for this unit common? being that they don't make the control box any more would the exact relay be availible? it looked like the box was one piece. I will have to check it again to see if it comes apart. If i can get to them and it fixes the problem I can put everything back together like it was before. That would be preferable thanks

There are 2 relays inside the control box. If you remove the plastic cover you can see the relays soldered to the board along with other components. One sure sign is to look at the outside of the relays to see if they are melted or burned. Mine was both.

don't forget the switch in the door frame
If that switch fails or the wiring circuit breaks
the door will not open

fail mode is steps retracted

Gjac If I was getting power into the control box but not out of it. would it not be the control box. where is the relay you were speaking of. I assume it is not around the step but in the electrical box with the fuses. thanks

on my Kwikee steps there are 2 hot wires. A red and a white. they must both be hot for the step to work check the white wire and if it is not hot trace back to a 6 amp fuse or a switch.
