Super C

What is a super c? Is this like a class c camper set on a large truck frame with a diesel?

  • We have a 2007 Dynamax 350SL on a Freightliner Heavy duty M-5. The unit weights about 33,000 empty and has air breaks. The motor is a Cat-C-7 350hp with a Allison 3000 trans. We like our Dynamax but there are a lot of different types of RV's to look at so have fun.
  • I think the Ford Super C uses the F550 chassis. And usually a diesel, also available on some makes in 4 X 4.
  • They are making new ford super c 's using the f-250 platform. I would not buy that rig if had the option, not sure what advantage that platform has really, except for towing of course. My thought is, how does a mechanic service the powerstroke engine (major repair) without the option of lifting the cab off the frame?
  • Thanks to all who replied. I know more than before and can start searching for one that I can afford. Have a good day.
  • Super C other names are Motorhome, Truck Conversion, Class 8 Conversion. When all else fails, I describe mine as a Freightliner Columbia truck with a 38' sleeper.

Did you look at your other post?
  • Gulfstream made up the name to describe a RV built on Class 5 Chevy Kodiak chassis, not necessarily diesel. Many Jayco and Gulfstream RVs on Kodiak were built with gas engines, as were some of Thor's Ford-based Funmovers.

Super C came to be applied to anything that size or larger: Ford F-series, small Internationals, Freightliners in Class 5 and Class 6 chassis, not just Kodiak/Topkick. The International came into the picture at one RV company when GM quit making larger trucks again, another moved to Freightliner.

You can find these built on larger trucks. Dynamax used Freightliners from Class 5 M series through Class 8 Columbia (as well as Ford E series and F series Class 4 and Class 5). Specialty companies build in sizes up through Class 8 on Volvo, Freightliner, Navistar, or any other big truck you want to buy that comes with a long chassis for a straight truck.

Depending on how big you are looking for (they range from under 30 feet and under 12,000 pounds to 40+ and weight ratings up to 40 tons) original price might have been about $80,000 or it might have been upwards of a million.

Yes. Many were built on the Chevy C5500 chassis. Not all of them had a diesel engine.
