Surge Protector - Progressive, or something better?

Trying to narrow down my hardwired surge protector choices. I see more posts about the Progressive models (EMS-HW30C being the top 30 amp model). Seems like a great deal for what it does.

That being said, is there anything higher up the food chain that people would recommend? I don't mind spending a bit more if the features are worth it!

Thanks for any advice!
Chris
  • Progressive Industries EMS is your best choice. Pianotuna is misinformed, the EMS protects against low voltage as well as surges, over voltage, mis-wired pedestals.

Ours has found open grounds, reversed polarity and kicked off for low voltage as well.
  • Hi,

Ask yourself which causes more damage. Surge or low voltage.

Low voltage causes progressive permanent damage. An autoformer with surge suppression built in may be a better choice.

I always check voltage under load and polarity before I plug in.
  • Definitely sounds like the no-brainer option! Getting it ordered today. Is it common for people to install the cables with inline plugs/sockets in case the unit goes down and you need to bypass it quickly (using a portable unit temporarily, of course)?
  • And the Progressive in made here. Made in the USA plus a life time warranty.
  • Progressive is the no-brainer choice. Easy install too.....Manufacture made that big ugly hole. I just cut power cord, spliced and diced.

  • Difference between TC Surge Guard Models and Progressive Industries Models........

    That would be the warranty
    TRC.....1 year
    Progressive....LIFETIME

Don't know of any other companies that offer any models except those two.
  • I have been looking at them too. I was considering the Surge Guard model, but after looking at the Progressive site, I am leaning towards them. Just seem to be a little more user friendly and better discussions on the forums.

Get a progressive. My research says so. For me
  • I can't see why you would need anything other than the Progressive unit. It does what you need it to do and has a lifetime warranty. As the old ad said "set it and forget it!".
