Tag Axle Tires.

I'm looking at starting to replace my 6 yo Toyo 12RX22.5 tires. As of this moment my thinking is to replace the fronts this year and the rears next year. According to my weights all my tires are moderately loaded so the current tire size is a good choice.

My question revolves around the tag tires. They are so lightly loaded I'm almost off the chart at the low end with the minimum 70 psig pressures. (4960 lb's/tire) and an axle wt of 9,000 lbs. At my next weighting I may reduce the tag pressure some more...say to 8000 lbs which would mean I'd be even more over-inflated.

Is there any particular reason not to drop down a tire size or two. for example a 10R X 22.5 would be 4000 lbs each at 70 psig. This might take some of the roughness out of the ride in the rear. In addition I might chose a tire with a sidewall that is less stiff that the Toyo.

Like I say, just thinking and I'm sure others have had a similar issue.
