tension on slideout awning

We recently got caught in high winds while camped near chicago. The winds pulled the slideout awning away from from motorhome and it wrapped itself around the awning tube. I have taped the fabric to the tube so that we could travel but in doing so have lost the spring tension. I have found replacement fabric and videos on installation but have not been able to find anything on how to reset the tension on the springs. Can anyone point me in the right direction ...it is a carefree slideout cover topper 2...
  • I did mine last year, with new stone vos awning topper fabric.

    To tension the awnings...
    Extend the slide.
    Pin the awning
Retract the slide 6 or so inches.
Take the end off and manually wind it up to take out the slack.
    Pull the pin (gently).
Extend the slide and pin it.
    Repeat.
  • thank you mountain aire .. just what i was looking for

  • When I changed the fabric on mine I just adjusted it to where the fabric was tight and not sagging.
As you just found out, it is best to retract the slides in high winds.
