Wow, so much bad information and oddball agenda's.
Slides are not problematic.
Nor are they hard to seal, hard to heat, cool, etc.
They add very little weight. Being made mostly out of aluminum, styrofoam and a sheet of plywood, the slide itself just isn't heavy. I can grab the bottom of mine and lift it by hand. The mechanism itself doesn't add up to 100#.
The rare slide that wont come in (which I have not seen in 27 years of RVing) can be easily retracted with a drill/driver or handle or in the case of Schwintek, just pushed in after releasing the motors.
Resale is a big one. RV's without slides are harder to sell and have a lower value than those that do. That's because REAL RV'rs WANT THEM.
Finally, having a slide doesn't keep you from being a REAL camper - (this passive agressive little insult is probably the most rediculous assertion).
The vast majority of experienced, long time RVr's want slides. All the posts like this one and before show that.
There's nothing wrong with not wanting them but don't let some internet poster with a bizzar jealousy of slides sway your choice.
Scott, sorry you took such offense but your angry, inaccurate post {above} necessitates a response. Accordingly I have sent you a two part PM. You might also consider rereading this
thread in its entirety and try to understand that as I noted earlier, "Opinions vary".
