Op Here: Apparently I need more to do, but in thinking about these posts and doing a little research on my own, these are my conclusions
1) Your rig, your money, I have no right to tell anyone what they should or should not buy, whatever works for you is great in my opinion.
2) I think the weight thing is a red herring, according to the manual, full of water, gas propane, fuel, us GD and dog we have about 350lbs ccc.
3) our gvrw is 11,500, if memory serves years back, full of all that (plus food, supplies etc) we came in at like 11,650. ( about 1% over) If the rig can not handle 1% over it is a death trap and should be banned
4) If it just two people, then I think no slide would be great. It is that GD, sleeping on the fold down couch that really makes the difference, (FOR US) and why a slide is great in my opinion, for us!
5) now that I had the opportunity, to take the thing apart, with my cousin, I am no longer afraid of it. I know how it works, I can band aid it on the fly
6) folks talk about no slide rigs, have a different floor plan. I get that, however in ours we love the rear kitchen, and bathroom. So interior width is 97inches slide or no slide. Only thing that would really change in our floor plan would be the forward slide wall would go away. That would help, but it would not make up for the slide loss
To each his own, these are just my thoughts, not trying to convince anyone, just for your consideration
