I have two slideouts, that together add 40 sq ft of space (equivalent to another 5 feet of length_. Only about 20 sq ft of that is really useful, the other half is living space luxury (unless you need a dance floor). Dealing with slideouts (mostly moving the stuff that gets put out and then put away again) adds about 5 minutes to setup, 10 minutes to breakdown, unless the RV is full of guests who don't know how to stay out of the way.
When it was two of us, plus two to four guest travelers, the extra space was worth the small hassle (including sometimes finding a parking space that could accommodate the slides). Now it is me alone, operating slides is something I don't need, but then again the whole RV is bigger than what I need.
My slides are Kwikee screw jacks, single screw per slide. Over 14 years, no operational issues, if the house batteries happen to be low, the alternator provides plenty of power to move them one at a time.
