thinking of replacing rugs in RV

after 12 years, the rugs are a mess. No amount of cleaning keeps them clean for more than a couple of days. I'm thinking about tearing out the rugs and have someone put in a laminate floor. Easier to keep up.

Any suggestions, words of wisdom?

thx beforehand

  • Tile floor, Wood floor:

    Pros:
    1. Looks good all the time
    2. Easy to take care of and cleans easily

    Cons:

    1. Colder which results in running heater/furnace more often
    2. Extra expense of buying rugs to cover. We have an oval and a rectangle Persian rugs which must be dry cleaned. Some have rugs that can be laundered. Personal preference.
    3. Dropped items usually break.
    4. Tile can break, wood can scratch. These will show up and usually occur only in obvious places. (right at the entry or right in front of the fridge)

As stated above, carpeting has come a long way in the past few years. Explore all options before making such a decision. My wife prefers the tile, I prefer the carpet. Of course she cleans the inside of the coach so she gets her choice...good luck....Dennis
  • Carpet has came along way from 12 years ago.
Some carpet you can pour bleach on and won't stain. Now they have water proof carpet.
Vinyl planks and tiles are good. But they will not warranty it in a rv.Main reason is the freezing cold.Laminate is Ok.But once scratched from slides or whatever it looks bad.
If your set on a hard surface I would go with luxury vinyl tile and use epoxy grout.
But do small sections of grouting at a time .It is hard to clean up when it dries.
  • We removed our carpet and installed vinyl planking, looks like stone. Fully floats and looks awesome. Did it ourselves in about 4 days in a39' Class 'A'.
We have dogs and grandkids so taking out the carpet was a no-brainer:)
  • I had carpet, liked it (warm when it's cold outside), replaced it with more carpet. I could not be happier. How you use your RV, store your RV and the areas you travel/store can have dramatic effects on many flooring types but not carpet, tile or stone. Moisture can ruin many of the wood or wood type floors.
Just make sure the product you install matches your life style as well as the kinds of activities that will take place in that area.
  • Laminate sounds like a great idea!

We have white tile flooring. I love it!I have a few machine washable throw rugs and matching runner to have something warm to walk on and to catch some of the junk that gets tracked in.
  • You can easily install vinyl plank yourself. Carpet in an RV is just a bad idea.
