Thinking of taking the Kids to Wash. DC any suggestions?

We are currently in Connecticut, on our trek back to Arizona. My wife wants to take the kids to Washington DC. We are in a 37 foot coach. Any suggestions, about getting around in an RV, in DC? Are there some good RV parks etc.
  • Definitely Cherry Hill and then take the bus to metro for an easy in, easy out to DC. The campground will set you up with every thing you need. Great trip with plenty to do. Enjoy !!

  • Cherry Hill for RV park. Take public transportation where possible. Book one of the tours. I lived there for 3 years and never saw it all.
  • Cherry Hill if you can get in on short notice and are staying a few days. For one day you can park at the Bladensburg Metro station or safer yet park at the BWI Amtrack station and ride that into DC.....If you have a towed ride there is a pretty good camp ground in Millersville but you still have to drive into DC, not recommended. You can get to most attractions on the Metro. I lived in DC and surrounding area for about 50 years and my main advice is don't be there after dark.
  • Cherry hill worked for us... close proximity to the Metro to get into DC to see all the museums and sites.

While you're close, and depending on the ages of your kids, I'd recommend you also spend a few days in Williamsburg. It's just a few hours further south but really worthwhile if you have the time. We stayed at American Heritage campground there. We have a similar sized MH to you.
  • Whatever you do, don’t attempt to drive around DC in a motorhome, or any other vehicle for that matter! Lots of people recommend cherry stone campground in Maryland. I’ve stayed there twice, and found it to be a very nicely run campground. They cater to RV’rs who are visiting DC, and Have a bus stop that takes you to the metro, which you can also drive to.

The one downside is it is definitely located near highways, evidenced by the constant drone of cars and trucks. Not enough to turn you off to the place, but you will definitely hear it.

DC is a great place to visit. Take the kids to the International Spy Museum in addition to the Smithsonian and the National Zoo.
