Thor 2010 step mount failed

The electric 2-step that extends when we open the door was getting some "spring" to it and kind of felt like it was loose. I removed the step today and found the mount on one side broken off and the other side was cracked and bending down. It was very close to total failure. Looking at the steel where the step is mounted, it looks to small a gauge steel to support the 50 pound electric step and the weight of a 200 pound person stepping down. That is a lot of force cantilevered out on the bottom step. Not quite sure how to fix it yet, thinking weld will only hold as long as the original....
