Thor recall?

A friend of mine has a 2011 Four Winds Windsport. He has had electrical problems with it since he got it.

He got a recall letter from Thor and is trying to get the work done so we can go camping this weekend.

Thor requested that our local RV shop call them so they can tell them what needs "fixed". It does not need any parts, only some wiring changed.

The dealer has called Thor numerous times and keeps being put on hold for over 15 minutes each time.

Does anyone know what the "fix" is so the RV shop can do the work and we can go camping?

  • Sounds like the problem is Thor not getting back to the dealer with instructions. Here's a link to the recall notice at the NHTSA. There's a phone number where you can contact that agency directly- maybe they can light a fire under Thor so your guy can get the info he needs.

    Good luck!
  • The recall is associated with the Battery Control Center (BCC) specifically the chassis battery disconnect. Should the disconnect solenoid fail while driving the engine will loose DC power and shut down. There's a long thread on IRV2 in the Thor Industries Owner's Forum. I have not read thru everything posted on the forum but it looks like the fix is to bypass the solenoid rather than replacing it with something stouter. The end result will be the chassis battery disconnect switch will no longer work and if the owner wishes to isolate the chassis battery they will either need to manually disconnect the battery terminal or install a manual disconnect at their expense.

Not too happy with the low cost solution in that it removes a much needed feature of the BCC. More or less they fixed a symptom but not the problem.
  • Jerry,

Tell us specifics of electric problems he is having at it may trigger more answers.

120 VAC issues? 12 VDC issues with charging? 12 VDC wiring? etc.
