Tiffin vs Newmar

How do these folks compare when it comes to quality in production and service after the motorhome has been bought

  • I don't think you can go wrong with either one. There were only two coaches we looked at when we went DP shopping. We wanted a true 40' with a tag, which eliminated the Tiffin. Now that we own the Newmar with Comfort Drive, I wouldn't buy a coach without it.

I do think that Tiffin does a better job on their paint, more coats of clear and heavier built bay doors. I know everyone says that Tiffin has a great warranty, but from years of reading the forums, it seems like many have had great warranty service, just a lot of it. Often requiring a trip to Red Bay.
  • Back (in 2013) when we were looking to replace our older Safari, we had pretty much settled on the Newmar Ventana 4330. There were a few things about it that I really didn't care for like it only had the ISC 380 engne, location of the living room TV, restriction of the overhead cabinet space on passenger side, and few other little insignificant tidbits, but we were unable to come to $$ terms with the dealer. He said they couldn't keep that model on hand as they were selling as fast as they could get them. Too bad, as we really liked that coach.

About a month later, we had made an appointment with another dealer that happened to be at a FMCA rally and test drove their 4330 that they had on display. Once again, we just couldn't get the dealer to budge from their "rally special" pricing....so we walked away, and told my wife that we'd eventually find one that met our predetermined and agreed upon budget limit.

While walking back to our car, my wife happened to notice another mh that seemed to be about the same length and exterior appearance of the Ventana and motioned to me that she wanted to take a look at it. It really looked out of our $$ comfort zone, but thought why not at least look at it.

Once inside, we noticed that it had several things the Ventana didn't like a fireplace, dishwasher, stacked W/D, TV mounted across from the couch, a lot more overhead cabinet space and also had the ISL 400 (with 1250 lbs of torque). The one thing that my DW didn't care for was that it didn't have a pantry.

While looking at the invoice listing, I noticed that not only was the "rally special" sales price many thousands less than the Ventana, but also the salesman indicated that this coach was almost a year old and they really needed to sell it.

After a little dickering, we settled on a price that was about 35% off of the MSRP (and well under our budget) and bought it on the spot.

We've now owned this coach for almost three years, and it's built quality has been almost perfect in every way. We experienced a few very minor problems that I was able to fix myself, but no major items, so far. I did have to replace a hydraulic solenoid for one of the leveling jacks and also a propane valve... other than that...I can't complain.

So what coach is it? Check my signature.

    Yeah THAT ! I love it. :)
  • BOTH are good mid-quality/mid price motorhome manufacturers.

No point in "my Ford is better than your Chevy" comparisons.
  • Absolutely NO complaints about my Tiffin. Having owned many over the years I find that the Tiffin Company truly stands behind their product. That's not to say Newmar does not, but I am a very happy Tiffin owner.
Personally, it is all about the floorplan.
  • Tiffin needs their post purchase support. Newmar builds it right the first time. :)
  • Basically it's six of one and a half dozen of the other. Newmar is maybe a little better in initial quality, but Tiffin is a bit better at post purchase/warranty customer support.
